The women artisans of Tilonia are able to earn an income to help support their families while working at home. In the traditional culture of the Rajput communities in rural Rajasthan, women are expected to remain at home. To show their modesty, they follow the traditional practice of covering their faces in the presence of male visitors.
By sewing Tilonia products, these women earn supplemental income that helps them to educate their children and improve their quality of life.
Perfectly proportioned and fabulously eco-chic, these tantalizing tote bags from Tilonia are the result of our collaboration with the San Francisco design studio, Raasta.
Raasta, the "way" in Hindi, is an ethical clothing brand started by Sonica Kapur who decided to find another way to make beautiful clothes than by following the fashion industry's current practices. Sonica is committed to creating ethical fashion produced with respect for her artisan partners and using eco-friendly and organic materials as much as possible.
The Raasta Spring / Summer Collection can be found at many Bay area retailers.
