The Barefoot College works with women in six villages in Rajasthan to produce these appliques. Tilonia applique, the style of applique taught to women by the The Barefoot College, uses designs adapted from mandanas which are traditional patterns on floors in Rajasthan. The Barmer Artisan Collection of hand appliqued decorative pillows and bedding sets feature a rich array of colors and styles based on traditional motifs. Hand appliqued by women artisans of the Barmer district in western Rajasthan. Income from needlework helps the women in this remote, rural area of India to help support their families.
